Episode 195: Bloopers and Molasses in our Glasses

Our 4th annual cutting room floor fun and a look back on the podcasting year that was (and what wasn’t in the show, for obvious reasons). Also in this episode, a new “Surviving Christmas” cocktail, the bloopers reel video, and a cheeky Pod Quiz.

We did it! 195 straight weeks and we are kicking the door down in 2019! But what did we accomplish in the last 52 weeks of 2018?

  • 11 Grape Gabs
  • 12 Regional Raps
  • 22 Guests
  • 3 Book Reviews
  • We also started our Instagram feed, created a Media Kit and animated video, launched our new W25 LoCo Edition series, partnered with WTSO for sponsorship (who will be with us into 2019, so more goodies for patrons!), and started contributing to a channel on the new My Wine Society App.

Also, we got to meet more friends of the pod this year!

Do you have some leftover molasses from your holiday gingerbread antics? We got you covered with Steph’s cocktail creation, “Surviving Christmas.” Val will drink to that.

In the Glasses (3:45)

Steph:

Surviving Christmas cocktail!

Ingredients:

1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice

½ oz molasses

¾ oz simple syrup

2 oz Eagle Rare Kentucky straight bourbon

3 dashes of grapefruit bitters

Val:

Drinking the same, just adjusted for thick old blackstrap molasses, Redemption wheated bourbon, and orange bitters.

Our annual W25 Bloopers reel! (8:00)

Pod Quiz! (11:00)

Last week we asked about: Cuvée. It has several meanings. Can you think of at least three? Also, did you know it could be used outside the wine world?

Answer: Yes, it is often used in terms of being a blend. It is also used as a producer’s offering, or to describe a batch or even the wine in a particular vat. However, in the Champagne world, it is the first 2050 litres of juice that comes off the press, and also the blend of base wines that make up the wine prior to the liqueur de tirage. It can also be used in the beer and chocolate worlds.

This week’s Pod Quiz: What is the Queen of England’s (Queen Elizabeth) favorite cocktail?

While this is more of of a trivia question, the answer will have an educational element. Because we’re slick like that.

Also, props to QEII because “It’s not 5 o’clock and one doesn’t care!”
