Episode 157: Local Wine Events & Eric V. Orange

The Juice is in the house! Eric V. Orange, creator of localwineevents.com and The Juice newsletter joins the W25 ladies for an afternoon chat about the number one website for consumers who are actively seeking out wine and food events in their area.

Wine Events “On Fleek” (3:22)

It all started 18 years ago … in San Diego. First, Eric lets us in on, of all the cities and countries around the world where wine events are listed using his service, which country surprised him the most. Early on, Eric did all the posting himself, then competitors jumped on board to post their events and it grew from there.

There’s a “chicken and the egg” factor that makes this whole thing work. If there are events listed in your area, The Juice will show up in your inbox to tell you about them.

Wine Resources are also on LocalWineEvents.com (6:40)

It’s not just about events. Local wine-related businesses can also list their services on the site, which can lead to more engagement.

Joe Roberts (1 Wine Dude) has been contributing the wine quizzes for quite a few years as well.

Wine articles? They got that!

Wine questions? They can get answers for you, often answered by Master of Wine Roger Bohmrich.

What else? Classified ads, a wine club, and even tours!

Speaking of Vacays (10:00)

Many organizations use the site to post Wine Study Trips & Tours. It’s interesting to see how people navigate posting location-specific tours to try to reach a broader market. Eric and his team are currently working on a bit of a rewrite to help these tour operators.

The Wine Road Ahead (12:50)

As for what’s on the horizon for LocalWineEvents.com and for Eric personally? He’s always trying to get more wine events, from the vineyard to the retailer, to make use of this tool in order to ensure the events reach more interested consumers. That’s right. You could be missing out if your events aren’t listed here – or you aren’t looking here. Wine lovers have to work together, right?

Also, now that his kids are almost in college, he does see more travel and tours ahead on his own agenda. And who would know more about where to find them than this guy?

There’s an App for That! (14:00)

Wine Enthusiast Magazine ranked the LocalWineEvents.com app as one of their top eight, and it’s available for iOS and Android!

Jack Says Hello & Eric’s Binge Watching Beverage of Choice (15:00)

What happens here is hilarious. To summarize:

Val mistakes a dog for a goat (because she’s smart like that).

Eric introduces us to Jack and his favorite Cabernet Sauvignon.

Finally, we verify there is no renovation happening in Eric’s office during this recording.

You’ll just have to listen.

Sit. Stay (18:22)

… and enjoy Eric’s funny wine story.

“It tastes like vinoooo ♫ ♬.” Ah, from the mouths of babes.
